Trainer: National Association for Adoptive Parents (NATP)
Course Overview: This course looks at how living with domestic abuse impacts upon the emotional well-being of children. We cover the direct and indirect adverse childhood experiences as outlined by the government and then explore how domestic abuse is in fact a very direct experience for a child from trauma.
Attendees are shown how the child’s experience of domestic abuse is communicated via their behaviour in their current home. There is an overview and exploration of directly related behaviours.
Adopters are given the necessary support and insight to understand why children who have experienced domestic abuse may struggle to trust adults, mask, befriend or become aggressive. Strategies are given to manage behaviour and help the child to develop trust in their relationships with safe adults/caregivers
Please note: This session will be recorded by the trainer. Those who cannot attend in person can have a time limited 7 day access link to the recorded webinar.
